Engineering is a field where you design different solutions to solve real-world issues. In this field, your understanding of science and math helps you to apply these solutions and create a better world. 

Mechanical engineers apply a strong foundational knowledge of mathematics and physics to design physical solutions to problems. Students can use their understanding of these concepts to manufacture and design orthopedic devices, self-driving vehicles, spacecraft, robots, and more.

The mechanical engineering program is a four-year degree and includes 136 credit hours of coursework.

As a mechanical engineering major, you’ll start by taking your foundational introductory math courses, which will help you develop a deeper understanding of calculus. For your engineering or science classes, you will take course offerings such as University Physics I, Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics, Machine Component Design, and Fluid Mechanics. 

After graduation, you could pursue an array of job opportunities in agriculture, aerospace, robotics and automation, manufacturing, and the automotive industry. You could explore internships at Honda or General Motors. If you’re interested in local employment, you could work at local medtech and orthopedic companies in Warsaw, the Orthopedic Capital of the World®. 

No matter their major, all students are offered a variety of scholarships and financial aid. As an engineering student, you have the opportunity to earn renewable merit scholarships, athletic scholarships, transfer scholarships, and more. Yes, as a mechanical engineering major, you’ll be taking a variety of project-based courses with many interactive learning opportunities. These classes will provide you with relevant information and hands-on experiences that will help with professional development. 

At Grace, engineering students in their sophomore year and above have access to a fully stocked machine shop to use for their projects.

For instance, in our classes, you’ll study industrial robotics and learn how your knowledge of science and math works within that field. You’ll discover how to use and apply these understandings through hands-on learning. 

Part of our major also includes an internship, where you’ll receive firsthand experience working in the engineering field. Warsaw is the Orthopedic Capital of the World®, which offers engineers a variety of companies to intern with, such as Zimmer Biomet, Paragon Medical, General Motors, Honda, and Medtronic.
